Hello Geeks! We only have two more episodes to go in this season of Game of Thrones and like the previous seasons the last two episodes are the most action packed. In this episode: The Hound gets revenge, Two allies are reunited, Tommen makes an announcement, Tyrion’s arrangement takes a turn for the worst, and Arya faces a new trial. Spoilers Ahead.
Hold the Door…
What up geeks! We are half way through the season and this was probably one of the most emotional episodes to date.
What up geeks! Welcome back to my weekly review of Game of Thrones, this weeks episode they turned up the heat, quite literally! So without further ado lets get to it. Beware there will be spoilers!
Two Words: Oberyn Martell
Hello! Fellow Game of Thronians, unfortunately due to Holiday last Monday we had to wait two weeks for another episode of GoT. So this review will also be a recap of the last episode. The last episode was stellar, sadly, this episode is a little slower building up for episodes to come. We get to see more of Tyrion after his trial trying to find a champion, Daenerys still in Meereen, Arya and The Hound, Jon Snow at the wall, Melisandre at Dragonstone, and Brienne and Podrick wandering.
The first scene we get a look into more Jamie and Tyrion banter which has been missing since season one. Tyrion feels relief and dismay at having lost his chance of living unless he finds a suitable champion for his trial by combat; the only way he knows he’ll get justice. I personally love that Jaime knows that Tyrion without a doubt did not kill Joffery and Tyrion knows that Jaime would have given up everything to save his brother from meeting death’s fate. (Ahh brotherly love). Tyrion pleads with Jaime to take up his sword and fight for him but Jaime knows better, and to sooner fight with his left hand would mean death for the both of them. Tyrion is going to have to look elsewhere for his fighter. We also get to look at who the challenger is: Sir Gregor Clegane the Mountain.
Next we get move to Arya and the Hound. They come upon a small hut with a farmer sitting outside holding a stab wound that he got from some bandits. Sheathing their respectable swords, Arya and the Hound take a closer look at the man. The Hound realizes immediately that the farmer is dying and he is dying slowly and painfully. He tells him that it isn’t going to get better and that he put an end to his suffering. They talk about his dying and Arya reveals herself to the man knowing that it doesn’t matter if he knows, since he’ll be dead soon. After taking a drink of water the Hound ends his suffering with a quick stab into the heart (both smiling at each other with gratitude). Even amongst traitors and murderers there is still some form of decency. He shows Arya where to stab if she ever needs to help someone pass and is then attacked and bitten from behind by who I can only guess was ‘Biter’ from the books. He snaps his neck and looks at the other man who means to do them harm. They are told that Sandor Clegane is wanted for killing Lannister soldiers. Arya recognizes the man and remembers that he was being taken prisoner by Yoren during season two. “He on your little list?” “He can’t be… I don’t know his name.” “What’s your name?” “Rorge.” And Dead. This exchange was one of my favorites of this episode, the unlikely team up of Arya and the Hound keeps getting better and better. Arya doesn’t hesitate to kill anymore, she knows it’s kill or be killed.
Going North, Jon Snow is back from dealing with the traitors at Craster’s keep and he tells Alliser Throne that the Wildlings are closing in and that they should seal up the tunnels. Alliser still being a douche ignores his request and puts Jon in his respectable place as a steward.
We go back to King’s Landing where Tyrion is trying for a second champion, Bronn, the man who fought for him before during his trial at the Eyrie. (Insert more playful banter). Tyrion finds out that his sister has given Bronn a knighthood and a marriage to Lolly’s Stokeworth in exchange for him not fighting. Tyrion pleads to him saying that they are friends, but that’s why Bronn has come to see him. “Aye I’m your friend, but when have you ever risked your life for me?” It’s here you see that Bronn truly cares for him even if he doesn’t want to risk it. Tyrion is out of options for champions.
In Meereen we see that a Kahleesi gets whatever she desires and she desires Daario. and In Dragonstone we see boobs, or excuse me, we see Melisandre bathing. We get to hear more about the infamous Lord of Light. I’m still wondering if she’s good or evil and here we get more insight to how she does the things she does. She uses certain potions and powders as tricks so she may make nonbelievers into believers of her religion. Stannis’ wife is worried about bringing their daughter on their voyage, saying that’s she is ill and should remain in Dragonstone. Melisandre vetoes her request saying that Shireen must come with them because the Lord of Light needs her. (:( more of the king’s blood perhaps?)
Back in Meereen Jorah Mormont is displeased with still being in the Friend-zone while Daario gets all the action, just kidding. Jorah is displeased with Daenery’s trust in Daario and comes to find out that she has tasked Daario and his Second Son’s to retake Yunkai. Jorah changes Daenery’s mind about slaughtering all the Masters, telling her two wrongs don’t make a right. She decides to send the son (the man begging her to give his father a proper burial from the previous episode), to Yunkai as am ambassador to tell them about Meereen. “They can live in my new world, or they can die in their old one.”
Back in Westeros, more life lessons with Arya and The Hound and we meet back up with Brienne and Podrick. We learn about The Hounds wounded past with him and his family. Brienne and Podrick meet up with an old ally Hot Pie. After they tell him they are looking for Sansa Stark he lets them know that he hasn’t seen Sansa but Arya Stark.
Back in the Dungeon’s we get a surprise visitor to Tyrion’s cell. Prince Oberyn Martell. Oberyn tells Tyrion about how Cersei wishes to see him die and how she has always wanted him dead. (My favorite part of the episode.) Wanting justice for the lives of his sister and her children, Oberyn volunteers to be his champion.
Going to the Eyrie we see that Sansa is a little nostalgic as she makes Winterfell out of snow, after a small spat with little Robin Arryn. Littlefinger arrives and boy does it get creepy. He goes on about how much he loves Catelyn and then kisses Sansa. (-.-‘) The camera then pans up to show that Lysa is watching them. Sansa is then invited to talk with Lysa near the Moon door. (This can’t be good) An argument ensues between Lysa and Sansa who blames for kissing Peytr. Littlefinger talks her down and tells her there was only one person he’s ever truly loved: Her Sister. He then pushes her out the moon door. Ooh irony.
+Arya and The Hound
+Robin gets slapped
+Lysa gets thrown out
-Had to wait two weeks
Can’t wait for the next episode! Cheers! (Just realized The Hound is in Hot Fuzz, must watch that movie again )
