May the leak be with us!
The debut trailer for EA & DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront II leaked tonight ahead of its planned debut later this week at Star Wars Celebration Orlando.
The footage and default image shows off classic and brand new Star Wars battles from each of the 3 trilogies and their eras, teasing a single player campaign that follows a nameless Imperial Officer in what is near the end of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Check out the trailer below, as well as some of the images with our brief analysis.

This appears to be the voice of the woman narrating the trailer. An Imperial Commander, she is recalling her last commands on Endor during the Rebel Alliance’s strike on the second Death Star. Seth Zielinski of The Geekiverse had a theory on our recent 20th episode of Walking Carpet in which the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi will show us the viewpoint of the bad guys (The First Order) more than any other Star Wars property has shown us to date.
In the original Battlefront II back on the original Xbox and Playstation 2, the campaign’s story was told by a Clone/Storm Trooper’s viewpoint, which helped to humanize the Empire. As a member of the 501st Legion, your trooper was apart of one of the most revered groups of soldiers in Star Wars history. I can’t help but wonder if we will get something similar here. My prediction: the story helps us fill in a portion of the 30 years between ROTJ & Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
This part of the trailer made me giddy. The Prequel Trilogy appears to be getting some love again, as Maul and Yoda (!!!) square off on Naboo. This is a dream duel of many Star Wars fans, myself included, as Maul and Yoda are my favorite respective Sith and Jedi. The heroes and villains found in Star Wars Battlefront were some of the best features of the game. If this trailer is any indication of what the character roster might look like, it appears we’ll have not just Yoda and Maul, but…
Rey & Kylo Ren! This portion of the trailer seems to show off some of the major battles from the Battle of Takodano from TFA to a possible scourge on Starkiller Base (or even Hoth). The trailer also shows off space battles, possibly placing a higher emphasis on them this time around.
This trailer has many Star Wars fans excited and it does one thing extremely well: balance. Seeing battles and characters from all 3 major Star Wars eras is enticing to say the least. We can’t wait to see the promised gameplay footage that will show at SW Celebration later this week.
