Tron Coaster Rumored for Walt Disney World Resort

If you have visited the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in recent years, you may have noticed that Tomorrowland is not quite as futuristic as it was when the park first opened in 1971. The last fifteen years have seen additions from films like Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., and Lilo and Stitch, but Tomorrowland is still lacking the futuristic thrill that its international counterparts have.

Walt Disney Treasures – Tomorrowland: Disney in Space and Beyond

Rumor has it that Tomorrowland might be getting a new, exciting addition straight from Disney’s newest park in China: the Tron Lightcycle Power Run. The attraction, currently at Shanghai Disney Resort, is a motorbike style roller coaster where Guests ride through the Grid on their very own lightcycle, reaching speeds of over 60 miles per hour. That’s the fastest of any Disney coasters to date. If it is brought to Walt Disney World, it would definitely fill the futuristic void and add a thrilling, hi-tech attraction that Guests would love to see at one of America’s Disney Parks.

The best candidate to be replaced by the Tron coaster is the outdated and overrated Tomorrowland Speedway. It’s been a staple in Tomorrowland ever since the park opened in 1971… and it shows.

Similar Speedway attractions at Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo Disney have closed in recent years to make way for a Beauty and the Beast themed area (Tokyo) and a Marvel attraction (Hong Kong). It seems like only a matter of time before Walt Disney World replaces their Speedway with something fresher and far more exciting.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed yet but it’s safe to say that Walt Disney World’s Tomorrowland is in need of a major face lift.
