A New Park Announced for Walt Disney World Resort

If you’ve traveled to Walt Disney World in recent years, you may have noticed growing crowd sizes–more hotels to house people but not enough park space to put them. The new additions of Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a good start, but for years, Guests have been hoping and wishing (maybe even begging) for a new park… and it looks like Disney has finally answered our prayers.

It was announced at Disney’s annual shareholder’s meeting on March 8th that, after years of rumors, Disney is, in fact, opening a villain themed park. Bob Iger announced that (while we’ll have to wait until at least 2020) the villain themed area is officially in the works.

The Dark Kingdom – as it’s being called right now will be an adult-only area with attractions that are more in the realm of thrill rides–similar to those found at Universal Studios.

Stores, restaurants, meet and greets, and attractions will all be based on your favorite villains from Jafar and Ursula to the Chernabog and Yzma.

Not much has been announced just yet (Disney’s track record at not staying on schedule can guarantee a bit of a wait on this new and exciting addition), but they have announced something that we can expect at The Dark Kingdom: three larger than life roller coasters!

There’s a ride based on Ursula where the track of the ride looks like the Sea Witch’s tentacles!

The Magic Kingdom has its own mountain range made up of Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and Space Mountain. To compete with the “good guys” over at the Magic Kingdom, the villains are offering their own trio of thrilling coasters:

Jafar’s Snake Coaster.
Yzma’s Secret Lab Coaster.
The Elephant Graveyard Coaster.

Oh, and instead of Cinderella’s Castle at the center of it all, we’ll have Maleficent’s dark and twisted castle.

We know we’ll have a lot more to look forward to in the coming years as more is announced on the new park.

Which villain are you most excited to see in this new addition to Walt Disney World? Let us know in the comments!
