Geekly Humpday: The 7 Most Anticipated Games for 2017

2016 has come and gone and with it, another year of great gaming. 2017 proves to be no different with a huge list of titles we’ve been dying to get our hands on. Here are just a few of the games Jo and I can’t wait for.

Tales of Berseria

One of my favorite series of all times comes back with a new game in the franchise and with a new lead female protagonist.

Release Date: Jan 24th

Horizon Zero Dawn

Image result for horizon zero dawnHorizon Zero Dawn takes place in a post-post apocalyptic world, where man is on the edge of extinction and machines rule. Its open world playability and beautiful graphics make this a must have for PS4 owners. I’m personally interested to know the story of HZD, so this is pretty high on my radar.

Release Date: Feb. 28th

Pre-order the Deluxe Edition of Mass Effect: Andromeda

Our beloved Sci-fi RPG from Bioware comes back for round 4, however this time you are a new character named Ryder. I can’t wait to see how this game looks on the PS4 and I’m super excited to find about the story – March couldn’t come any sooner.

Release Date: March 21
PS4, Xbox One, PC

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

Now this game was hinted for release in 2017 but we haven’t heard anything in awhile as far as rumors and whispers. This was one of the most underrated RPG’s on the PS3 and if you haven’t picked it up, I would highly suggest you do. The magic and feel of the game makes you feel like you’re in a Hayao Miyazaki movie.

Release Date: TBA 2017

Mass Effect: Andromeda

This is my most anticipated game of the year – I don’t care if Sam already picked it! The Mass Effect Trilogy has a special place in my heart, ranking very high on my all time series list, quite possibly just behind the Batman Arkham series. Andromeda looks to be a huge game and if the hype is any indication, will be a game of the year contender. Bring on Andromeda!

Release Date: March 21
PS4, Xbox One, PC

God of War

Upon the stunning announcement at E3 2016, I instantly became even happier that I own a PS4. God of War looks to reboot the franchise in a way that brings elements from its gory, action packed past and mix them with moments of calmer, more intricate story elements.

Release Date: TBA

Red Dead Redemption2

Speaking of game of the year contenders – of course, it’s really too early to speculate, but assuming RDR2 does come out this fall (and I have no reason to doubt Rockstar Games), it will be a game not only for 2017, but for the ages. Rumor has it you’ll be playing as John Marston’s son. We’ve received no information outside of a brief teaser trailer, so I’ll be thirsting for more info likely until this Summer. It’s okay, I’ll wait! I predict this will release smack dab in the middle of October.

Release Date: TBA
PS4, Xbox One, PC

An Insomniac-run Spider-man is a dream come true. Oh, and it isn’t tied to any movie or comic arch. Color me giddy. Insomniac has a long history of quality titles, so Sony and Marvel were wise to team up. We haven’t received a good Spider-man video game in over a decade (The Amazing Spider-man featured some good elements, but needed work to reach its full potential). I am a tad leary with this title, but I am still optimistic overall. One thing I’d be okay with – a delay. We don’t need this to race the clock and come out alongside July’s Spider-man: Homecoming. Hey, it worked out very well when Batman: Arkham Asylum didn’t meet the deadline to come out alongside The Dark Knight Rises.

Release Date: TBA

We’ll see a slew of game announcements in the coming months that could expand our list here but for now, this is what we are looking at. I am very excited for the all but confirmed Star Wars Battlefront 2, as well as the potential Destiny 2. One game I’d love to get around May? Rogue One: A Lego Star Wars Story. Make it happen, TT! Lastly, I cannot wait for the Nintendo Switch and the long awaited Breath of the Wild. What a year we will see in gaming!
