Variety is reporting that The CW has given the nod for next season to all 4 of their DCTV superhero shows in early renewal announcements that came down this morning.
Fans will definitely be getting more of The Flash , Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl next season. The early renewals allow for producers to get to work now on the future content and, if they choose, plant the seeds in late season episodes for next season.
The CW also announced it would be doing an animated version of DC’s Constantine, on CW Seed, the network’s all digital platform. The great news is that actor Matt Ryan, who played John Constantine on the short lived NBC series will be voicing the character on the new series. That gets a big woo hoo. Cartoon Constantine, like the other four, will be produced by Greg Berlanti – another big woo hoo.
Putting on my Grumpy Geek cap, I am a bit surprised, albeit pleasantly, that Supergirl and Legends got early renewals. I was afraid that Supergirl’s lower budget might take a toll and Legends is, no doubt, the weakest of the shows.
According to the Variety report, all 4 have seen some ratings dips this season, but that could be because there is so much good TV now that you can’t watch it all. Everyone has to make their choices and there are some good choices to be had on TV this season.
What do you think about the renewals? Are you enjoying DC TV as much now as before? Our boy, Lou says that the Flash is much watch TV and Arrow isn’t anymore. What do you think about that? Leave a comment below. I’ll bet I can find something to be grumpy about.
