Lemony Snicket, played by Patrick Warburton, implores us to “avoid the cruel whimsy and whimsical cruelty of what is to come” in this teaser for the upcoming series.
Netflix came out with a brand new teaser today for the show we’ve all been waiting for, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. We have finally been given a release date, as well as a new tidbit of information in that there will only be 8 episodes in the series, not 13 as previous rumors stated.
It’s amusing that Snicket refers to Netflix as “the company responsible for filming A Series of Unfortunate Events.” In keeping with the style that Lemony Snicket (AKA Daniel Handler) wrote his books, Netflix has made it obvious that the narrator is both within the story and outside it, completely aware that the account of events is being told.
Also staying true to the Lemony Snicket approach, we are advised, “don’t make the same mistake that Netflix has, and look away.” This, of course, only makes viewers want to watch it even more.
With a sweeping view of the fantastically stylistic set, we are definitely being given just the tip of the iceberg. I think I speak for all Snicket fans in saying that this teaser has done exactly what it was made to do.
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is scheduled to release January 13, 2017. This will be the first Friday the 13th of the year, making it an entirely appropriate release date for such an eerie and miserable series.
