Hey, Flash, I call BS

Last night’s cliffhanger episode of CW’s “The Flash” answered a big question. Or did it? I know what it did for me is to make sure I am emotionally agitated until it returns from a mini-hiatus on March 22. Spoilers ahead. It’s true.

To bring you up to speed…those speedy puns never get old for me…this ep was the follow up to the two part episode “Welcome To Earth-2” and “Escape From Earth-2”. At the end of the episode, Barry grabs Harrison Wells and his daughter Jesse Quick and jumps through the breach in the quick of time.  Jay Garrick moves to the front of the breach as it closes and in the last second Zoom reaches through, driving his clawed hand through Garrick’s chest, presumably killing the former speedster. A very sweet moment.

In this week’s episode, “King Shark”, Zoom returns to his liar/dungeon carrying the presumably dead body of the person we believe to be Earth-2’s Jay Garrick, who was part of the team at STAR Labs. Zoom unceremoniously dumps Garrick, and removes has mask while saying “this complicates things” , to reveal that he is, in fact, Jay Garrick. What the …. ?

To complicate things further, Flash Executive Producer, Andrew Kreisberg dropped a bomb or two in an interview with Variety that just don’t add up.

If he is to be believed (he’s only the show’s EP), Zoom is Earth-1’s, Jay Garrick, who actually goes by the name Hunter Zolomon.

“For us, it could only happen because of what happened last season,” Kreisberg explains. “For Barry and the others, as much as they were stung by Wells/Thawne’s betrayal, he had been their mentor and friend and they all felt that vacuum when he was gone. Jay had been watching them and knew that so he was able to masterfully step into the role each of them needed. He became a friend and mentor to Barry. A love interest to the heartbroken Caitlin. He skillfully played them all.”

I call bullshit. This doesn’t really work for a variety of reasons. First, at the end of the episode Zoom kills the person we know is Jay Garrick, friend of STAR Labs. He has just been working on things (including Caitlyn) at the lab when Zoom reaches through and presumably kills him. So, Zoom just killed……. himself?

Secondly, if Zoom is Hunter Zolomon, of Earth-1 fame, and he is all speed forced up, for what good reason would he be unleashing his bad guyness on Earth-2, and not his home world of Earth-1,  where the speedster of his ultimate obsession is?

This one is a little more tentative, and can probably be explained away easily, but thirdly, it is Barry that opened the breaches between Earth-1 and Earth-2.  How did Zoom go back and forth before that?

To add one more WTF to the mix, there is the man in the iron mask in a cell in the Zoom Cave. When he taps out J–A–Y in the cell, and Barry tells him that Jay is safe over on Earth-1, steel face goes all negatory. That doesn’t necessarily mean it is a Jay Garrick in the face chastity belt, and certainly, it could be Earth-3,4 or 5 Jay Garrick. Why limit ourselves to just 2? It is just worth pointing out.

So, what do you got? Which Jay Garrick/Hunter Zolomon is Zoom. How can it work that Zoom is the Jay Garrick that is pals with STAR LABS when we clearly see Zoom kill that Jay Garrick? Leave your thoughts below. I would.
