Whose side are you on?
With Jessica Jones now available and everyone bingeing away on it, Marvel Studios Marketing has kicked off the promotion for its next big outing, Captain American: Civil War.
The first trailer dropped officially yesterday. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, as was to be expected since the previous Captain America outing is widely considered to be one of the best films that Marvel Studios has released.
The new trailer starts off with a familiar scene. Falcon and Captain America have located The Winter Soldier and it seems that the group coming in may not be keen on taking him alive. We got our first glimpse of this at the end of Ant-Man and now we find out Bucky has regained at least some of his memories.
A face we haven’t seen since Phase 1 shows up to give us an idea of the public’s view on super heroes – General Ross explains that some view the superheroes as vigilantes who need some accountability and limitations a sentiment Tony Stark echoes. While we are not clear on Steve Rodgers reasons for his dissent from this line of thinking, it definitely has something to do with the consequences facing Bucky.
We get to see some excellent scenes with Cap’s team (Hawkeye, Falcon, Scarlet Witch and Bucky) facing Iron Man’s (War Machine and Black Panther) although those are the only team members visible in the skirmish. We also know Black Widow at some point attempts to talk Steve down and we get an indication that Falcon may not completely agree with Cap, as he points out they should consider their options. At the end we get a glimpse of what I can only assume to be a pivotal fight scene as Bucky and Cap both take on Iron Man. It is every bit as amazing as we have come to expect from Captain America’s fight choreography, as seen in The Winter Soldier.
But the biggest deal from the trailer – the one that will no doubt have every fanboy talking – is that we get our first clear glimpse of The Black Panther in action. We see his agility, his speed, but more importantly we see how perfectly they have translated the King of Wakanda’s costume to the screen.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go watch it at least a dozen more times. Check it out below.
