Patrick Kane will no longer appear on the cover of EA Sports’ NHL 16.
Pending police investigation for an incident in Hamburg, NY this month, EA decided to pull the NHL Superstar in lieu of September’s release.
The cover previously featured both Kane and Jonathan Toews of the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks hoisting hockey’s ultimate prize, Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Controversy aside, I like the new cover better. It’s a bit less cheesy and certainly a little more sharp (sorry Blackhawks fans, see what I did there?).
It’s not the first time that EA has changed cover athletes. For NHL 2004, then-Atlanta Thrasher “50-in-07” Dany Heatley was on the cover before being involved in a car crash that killed teammate Dan Snyder. Colorado Avalanche legend Joe Sakic was the replacement. I actually have a copy of the Heatley cover in my PS2 library. Check out the alternates below.
