Battlefield: Hardline Leaked & Then Confirmed by EA

The newest entry in EA’s Battlefield franchise is set to release this fall as the Battlelog Blog “leaked” an image of the title.

The franchise (which appears to now be annualized) will follow up the buggy, disappointing Battlefield 4 with Hardline, a new take on the series. Built for next-gen systems, Hardline is the first game in the series not to be developed by DICE, who is presumably working on Battlefield 5. Visceral Games will be developing the title. Visceral created the popular Dead Space Trilogy on last-gen systems and is also working on a yet to be announced Star Wars title. Possibly, they are looking to adapt to Activision’s method of rotating studios for Call of Duty (each studio gets a 3 year development cycle).

Hardline will focus on Police rather than Military war, featuring the SWAT and the Thieves. The four classes include Operator, Mechanic, Enforcer, and Professional. Two game modes are titled “Heist” and “Blood Money.” EA will be releasing much more on Battlefield: Hardline at E3 in June. The game will debut on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and PC.

Here’s to hoping we see more details on Star Wars: Battlefront 3 and Visceral’s Star Wars shooter!

  1. Dang! I have always liked the battlefield franchise. One of the more endearing qualities about the game was the fact that it was different than Call of Duty. I was hoping beyond hope that DICE would never take the same path as COD and put out a new title every year – watering down the content for the sake of the money.
Every time you buy a game now a days it’s an investment. After you buy the game itself and the DLC, (season’s pass or whatever you want to call the extra stuff) you have forked over around $100 maybe more. I’ve always felt that it was too much to expect your fan base to spend this kind of money year in and year out. That was one of the main reasons why I bailed on the COD franchise. If battlefield takes the same path I am afraid I will have to abandon ship and look elsewhere for gaming titles.

  2. I had a few issues with this article. You start your article saying “The franchise (which appears to now be annualized) will follow up the buggy, disappointing Battlefield 4 with Hardline…” I understand Battlefield 4 had it’s issues, but your initial derogatory statement about the game is way too alienating to some of your possible readers. If a die hard BF4 player was reading this and saw that 9/10 times they would leave immediately.

Second, I don’t think you should assume DICE is going to be working on BF5 unless you have some direct sources.

Based off these two links I think it would be better to assume that DICE is working on Battlefront considering it’s predicted summer 2015 release.

Looking at this footage, I would have to say that this is the right move for the Battlefield franchise. This is a concept that hasn’t been done much nor well. It looks like Visceral has done a pretty well job developing this game. As long as EA didn’t push them to hit this Fall release (we really don’t even know how long it has been in development) and EA prep the servers correctly then this should actually be a pretty awesome game.
