In addition to today’s announcement unveiling a $399 Xbox One, Microsoft announced June’s free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Halo: Spartan Assault and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood will be downloadable at no extra charge. The announcement marks Xbox One’s first month of participation in the program that debuted last Summer. Typically the announcement for next month’s free titles comes on the last day of the month, but this is likely a result of E3 taking place in June. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer also announced that the Xbox One will contain a Virtual VIP Room that will feature free games, monthly deals, and more.
Xbox 360 users will receive a bonus game in addition to the usual two games, thanks to the program’s one year anniversary. The highly rated Dark Souls will be featured along with Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition. The selection is slightly improving as time goes on. Currently, Dark Souls 2 is in the conversation for Game of the Year, so playing the original will introduce many players to the franchise.
